Fishing in and around Jackson County Florida

Bream on Dead Lakes

If you are a fisherman, whether it be an avid one or an occasional one, we have the places for you. For fresh water fishing let's start in the western side of Jackson County with Cowarts Creek and Marshall Creek. These creeks are located just below the Alabama State line and approximately 9 miles north of Marianna, Florida. Fishermen have been known to catch catfish, bream, bass, and, at times, mullet in these waters. The two creeks are also part of the Chipola River which rises in Southeast Alabama and flows southward for 80 miles all the way to the Apalachicola River. There are so many fishing holes and landings on the Chipola River that you have to "come see to believe."

The eastern side of Jackson County has the Chattahoochee River which starts in the mountains of Northeast Georgia and flows through Jackson County, passing by Neals Landing, Buena Vista Landing, Parramores Landing and on down to Sneads, Florida and Lake Seminole. Lake Seminole is home to several Bass Tournaments every year. Most weekends, you will find the lake dotted with fishermen trying their luck.

Dead Lakes CatfishThe Apalachicola River begins at Sneads below the Jim Woodruff Dam and winds its way down to the Gulf of Mexico. This river has the highest diversity of freshwater fish species in the State of Florida and is home to record bass catches.

Catch of the day!If you want Saltwater fishing, the Gulf of Mexico is where you need to be. Panama City Beach, Destin, Fort Walton, & Pensacola all make up a part of my Northwest Florida. You can charter a fishing expedition or take a day on your own. Whichever kind of fishing you decide to do, you won't be disappointed with our water resources.

View pictures on the left of some of the creeks, landings, and beaches I have mentioned above. You will get an idea of the natural beauty and fishing opportunities of Northwest Florida, but you really have to visit our area to understand how lucky we are to have something for "every fisherman".
